The Muslim Society of Guelph, based on international moon-sighting, announces ʿEīd Al-Fiṭr for:
Tuesday 4th of June, 2019
We pray for accepted worship, fasting and charity. We wish everyone a happy ʿEīd Mubārak!
We will have ʿEīd prayers taking place tomorrow at MSOG: at 8:30 AM.
Unity & Uniformity
We join the overwhelming majority Canadian organizations, masājid and Canadian Muslims who are celebrating ʿEīd tomorrow (Tuesday 4th June, 2019) along with many masājid affiliated with ISNA, ICNA, MAC, FCNA. Majority masājid and Islamic centers, locally in Cambridge and Kitchener have also announced the same. It is our belief that an important Islamic objective is unity, even if it means to follow a valid fiqh position that may be considered weak or not common, for the sake of the bigger picture, which is unity and uniformity in this case.
Our Prophet Muḥammad (peace and blessings upon him) said, "The fast is the day [most] people fast and the breaking of the fast is the day [most] people break their fast.” (Tirmidhī & Ibn Mājah)
Telescope and Optical Aid
Some of the above sightings may have been through telescope or optical aid. This is acceptable in Islamic jurisprudence. Please refer to well known fiqh and fatāwa manuals.
Testimony vs. Astronomy
It is also a well-known fiqh principle that testimony [for sighting by observers] is given preference over astronomy and predetermined calculations in Islam. Again, please refer to well known fiqh and fatāwa manuals.
We do understand some minority groups and organizations will celebrate ʿEīd on Wednesday based on other Islamic fiqh criteria such as local sighting. We urge everyone to show respect and love, regardless which position is followed.
Once again, ʿEīd Al-Fiṭr Mubārak!

"Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar,
Laa ilaaha illallah, wallahu Akbar.
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahi-l hamd".
"Allah is Great, Allah is Great.
There is no god but Allah. Allah is Great.
Allah is Great and to Allah belongs all Praise and Thanks."
Let our repetition of these words remind us that it is
Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala Alone
whom we worship, to Whom we give thanks for His bounties
and blessings, and to Whom we direct our cries for help.
When we make Dua'h, Almighty Allah Rabbul Ala'meen
hears more than what we say,
He answers more than what we ask for,
He gives us more than we desire
and more than we deserve!
May Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala answer all your Dua’hs
your Ibadah, supplications and good deeds & bless you every moment of each and every day!
May the future bring forth an unending stream of happiness,
good health, success, Baraka'h and untold Blessings and may
the radiant Nur of Eid-ul-Fitr remain with you throughout the year
- Insha'Allah; Ameen! Ya Rabb.
May the seeds of all your good deeds
bloom into the most beautiful garden in Jannah,
and let the trees that spring from it shade you from the
